★ backstory.
After Striker's raid on the X-mansion and the tragic events that occurred at Alkali Lake; the residents of Charles Xavier's School scrambled to fix the tattered remains of their lives. Things seemed to return to whatever passed for normal until seemingly random residents began to be plagued by strange dreams. Those who suffered soon fell in to a coma and when they awoke they weren't quite right, even those who were healthy were prone to catching glimpses of a strange woman around the school. It was months before the woman revealed herself and her plan; she was a beloved child of the mansion from the future who had grown up, become deranged, and used future technologies to return and wreck havoc on those she blamed for the way she turned out. The woman was destroyed but not before a dear pet was lost and a resident of the mansion was pushed in to a portal to parts unknown. Soon afterward further tragedy struck the mansion. A girl who had been captured and experimented on at Alkali Lake fell ill. She was soon deemed Patient Zero of the Legacy Virus - a virus that Stryker had engineered as a fail safe; a back up plan in case the dark cerebro was unable to take out the mutant race. After much research Dr. Hank McCoy was able to produce a way to reset the virus to beginning stages, he was unable to keep it from spreading or cure it. Several residents became infected with the thought to be deadly virus. Two notable carriers were Pell and the former professional skater Jason Aeneas. Pell, convinced that she and her loved ones were doomed to die a slow and painful death at the hands of legacy, decides to play the angel of death and end things as quickly and painlessly as she can. As Jason moved on, Pell attempted to save another loved one from slow death - unbeknownst to her that her friend had all ready succumbed to Legacy. Pell went on the run and the world became a buzz with the murdering mutant who had killed the mutant skater. In the end it all became for nothing, as Dr. McCoy finally discovered a cure for legacy. All of the carriers were soon cured. During the Legacy Virus Epidemic another tragedy struck two residents of the mansion and the mutant community as a whole. Needing a break from school and life in general Jubilation Lee and Anali McCombs were spending the day in the city when they wandered in to a Anti-mutant rally and were drugged and abducted. They were missing for a few months with Professor Xavier unable to use Cerebro to locate them. Finally, while the X-men were lured away from the school on a false mission, the girls were returned to the mansion - more specifically on the front lawn where they were hung off of crucifixes. Jubilee was able to be revived by the infirmary staff. Anali, however, was not. Jubilee and Anali would not be the only victims that night, six other mutants were also found in various places in the same manner. A year passed before the residents of Xavier's would be affected by anything so large as Legacy and the crucifixions. On September 18th, 2006 a press conference was called to announce that Worthington Industries had discovered a cure for mutants. The mutant community erupted and divided. There were those who thought that the cure was just a fact of life and others who felt it was a threat to everything. The start of a war. The Brotherhood began to recruit an army, determined to stop the cure and anyone who stood in the way of that goal. However, the X-men were tipped off to the Brotherhood's plan and intervened. They removed the source of the cure, a little boy, to a safe location before the Brotherhood could attack and kill him. Foiled but content that soon the supply for the cure would run out, Magneto disbanded the new army and retreated in to obscurity to lay low for a while. Over the years the residents of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters have moved on from the school in various ways for various reasons, though some have survived the test of time. Professor Xavier is now in the process of recruiting a new generation of mutants to join him at his home. |
