★ frequently asked questions.

Q: What kind of game is mutating exactly? What can I expect out of it?
Mutating is an AU, post X2, movieverse game. We've been running without stop since a few months after the release of X-Men 2; incorporating some of X3, comic, and original storylines in to our game. We mostly deal with the day to day lives of our mutants and those who are involved with them - of course, when you're a mutant or involved with them, things aren't always quite normal. We don't like to say we are adult based nor student based, both are involved and there always seems to be adult themes about.

We frequently have game wide plots that you can get involved with - both short term and long running. Even so, players are encouraged to make up plots for their own characters as the vast majority of the game is driven by players taking the initiative and character interaction. Around mutating we're open to all kinds of plot; it's the place to flex your creative muscles.

Q: What are the policies on marriages, babies, and death?
Your characters can get married if they want, just remember that if they choose to have a divorce it will take six months to go through unless they have grounds for an annulment. Pregnancies and babies are a little tougher - at this time we're not asking for approval but if we end up with too many kids running around we might limit this. Pregnancies are expected to last a full nine months (or something close to that); there will be no accelerated trimesters unless you have a damn good reason and that will need to be pre-approved. To kill off a character you need to talk to a mod about the plot revolving around it first.

Q: Are there any specific rules on what I can and can't do with my icons?
Yes. Make them blank, keep them blank. Be sure to manip your icons to show any of your character's physical mutations. Do not icon stock photos.

Q: Are there any limits on or banned PBs?
Yes. No dead people, no wanna be dead people, no scenesters, myspace models, suicide girls, your RL BFF or anything like that. While living and breathing, PBs must also be age appropriate and fitting. We cannot stress this enough. For example: try as he might, Orlando Bloom cannot be fifteen again, and try as she might, Miley Cyrus cannot become a high fashion model.

Q: What's the character limit?
When you first join you're limited to one character. After two weeks in the game you may apply for a second character. If you're still feeling good, you may apply for an unlimited amount of characters; within reason and assuming you can handle them all. Exceptions may apply, we can never be sure!

Q: I noticed that such-and-such is a canon character but has this-and-that changed. What's up with that?
There's two reasons for this. The first one is that something that works in the comics might not work in a movie or "real world" type setting. The second is that we're open to people making certain changes to the character and making them their own, as long as they keep the spirit of the character around.

Q: How do I go about taking a hiatus?
Taking a hiatus is pretty simple. All you have to do is make a post in [info]demutated and give us a heads up about it and (if possible) let us know about how long you'll be gone for. This can also be done at the drop box, if you want to keep it quiet.

Q: How does the Danger Room work?
In Mutating, the Danger Room is basically a really big high tech computer. It runs holograms that will look, smell, sound, and feel solid/real - you can sustain real injuries from it though there is a safety that would likely prevent any death. Those who have access to the danger room will be able to use pre-programmed programs or make their own.

To enter the DR a character must have a code that will be provided to them by Professor Xavier. This code will not only be their entrance key, it will also be a user ID for the computer that will help to monitor their level, clearance, etc. People who do not have a code may enter with a senior user who has the ability to bring in guests, otherwise they will not be able to use the DR.

The DR can be used for things other than training purposes - within reason. The interface of the computer should be relatively easy to use to any character. Characters can control the environment inside the DR from either the control room or inside the DR with verbal commands.

Q: How does my character get a place on the X-men team?
At this time, Professor Xavier hand selects the members of the X-men. His selection process is unknown. If a character goes to him and asks he may grant permission, he may not. Anyone can train to be on the X-men reserves, not everyone will be selected to make it to the main team. Out of game you should talk to a mod about getting your character on the team.

Q: What kind of training do students get?
In addition to basic academics students education is supplemented by power training courses. They can also opt to take basic defense and x-men training courses.

Q: What happens if my character does something that affects the mansion itself?
You should immediately post a note about it in OOC, regardless of whether or not you threaded it or you plan to post the log.

Q: Are human character allowed to reside at Xavier's/be a part of the journal network/etc?
As long as you can come up with a good reason for them to be there and involved in the game, yes.

Q: I've joined, where is my shiny graphic on the character page?
That will come as soon as we see you're not running out! Our graphic mod doesn't enjoy putting things up, only to take them back down. Fret not if you plan on sticking around.
